We are often asked to provide free mold
remediation protocols to homeowners and we are unable to do
this. First we make our living by providing our consulting
services including remediation protocols and secondly because we
offer site specific mold remediation protocols that are based on
all the factors we see and examine during our investigation.
It is impossible for us to give you complete instructions
without visiting the site and determining the true extent of
damage and hazards if they exist.
However, we recognize many homeowners have very simple problems
with very simple to solve moisture problems. For those
situations we recommend the EPA guidance documents on cleaning
the mold in your home. They can be found at
http://www.epa.gov/mold/cleanupguidelines.html
We do not recommend using Clorox for mold
remediation projects. Instead their are two products we
have had some good results with. The first is a more
industrial type product that is good at both cleaning the stains
and killing the mold. It is called
Fiberlock ShockWave.
The second is a home based product that is good for killing mold
after the product dries but is not a cleaning agent. This
product is called
Concrobrium.
If you hare a contractor to remediate your
mold, make sure their workers have attended training in addition
to the supervisor. Secondly make sure you have an
understanding of what their scope of work is and how they are
going to protect you and your family.
As always we are glad to provide
consulting for remediation protocols, oversight and post
remediation inspection with licensed professional engineers.
