Fire
Investigations:
We have over 20 years
experience investigating residential, commercial and industrial
fires and explosions. Our expertise is the confirmation or
elimination of the electrical system as the fire ignition source
in conjunction with the origin and cause expert. We also
investigate appliances and equipment to determine the cause of
the failure and if the failure ignited a fire or caused personal
injury.
Electrical
Equipment Failures:
All types of electrical
equipment are subject to failure from bad design, lightning or
age and the failure may ignite a fire, cause personal injury or
cause other loss. When this happens we investigate the cause of
the failure to identify the cause of the failure and the
responsibility for the failure. The electrical equipment we
investigate includes:
Personal
Injury:
Electrocution and electrical
shock investigations to determine the cause and evaluate the
reason the safeguards built into the electrical systems did not
protect the individuals from injury. This investigation
includes contact with electric utility power lines and
investigation of construction compliance with codes and
standards. The investigations also include personnel protection
devices and wiring methods intended for personnel protection and
compliance with codes and standards.
Lightning
and High Voltage Damage:
Investigation of electrical
equipment, including air conditioning and computers for damage,
or lack thereof, from lightning and high voltage surges causing
equipment failure or fire.
Lighting and
Life Safety Application:
Investigation of accidents
related to inadequate lighting for safety of personnel. These
investigations include evaluation of pool lighting to prevent
diving injury, building emergency egress marking and emergency
lighting and exterior safety lighting. The codes and standards
for lighting application are not as defined as building
construction codes and standards and HCE has applied the
lighting codes and standards for over 40 years and are
intimately familiar with them and their application.
Electrical
Testing
We have the equipment to test
the following electrical equipment to verify compliance with the
standard: circuit breakers, equipment grounds, GFI receptacles,
GFI circuit breakers, electrical insulation, operating
voltage/current, voltage dips and surges.
